Autumn Leaves

Autumn Leaves
Originally uploaded by Secret Sheep

Father Christmas was very generous and brought me an Ashford drum carder. Here is my very first handspun from a batt I carded myself. It started off as a red/orange/yellow blend, and I carded it with a leaf green.

So now of course, I need loads more wool. I ordered 12 colours of merino wool (basic colour wheel) from www.forestfibres.co.uk to start me off.

Here is the finished scarf. Crocheted with handspun merino, a sparkle of angelina and alternated with Rachel's space-dyed wool. Backed with a lovely warm fleece. Finished with a gorgeous purple shell button and some pearly beads.

So far: The secret message wool is crocheted alongside my handspun. Now I am waiting for some wine coloured fleece to line it. It will be blanket stitched around, and finished with a purple shell button to fasten with the loop.

I'm not overjoyed with this. I liked it until I saw it in the photo. I still like the sky but I never could get perspective right. I shall continue to look at other folks' work and try to improve my own.

Dog and cat!

Dog and cat!
Originally uploaded by Secret Sheep

Golden Retriever fur spun by spinweaver, plied with cat fur provided by lej619, spun by myself. It's very soft!

The cat fur was tricky at first, but then went rather well. It plied well with the dog and I look forward to crocheting it into the middle of a square for my blanket.

I thoroughly enjoyed making this. I experimented with stitches and particularly liked the open chain stitch. This was so much fun that I joined a Kit Group on Swap-Bot, and look forward to swapping more kits!

Spun yesterday morning. Initially I decided I wasn't friends with merino any more. Then it ended up like this and I love it.

Secret message wool

Rachel (6) and I dyed this knitted length using Kool-Aid. Firstly we dyed it pink, then splodged cherry over it, then wrote the message in blue. It will be re-knitted into mittens and a hat for her. I am going to spin some sparkly pink to ply with it first.

Rachel is proud of her wool dyeing!
